The Movement

  • The dictionary defines Pilates as (noun | piˈla’tes | \ piˈlätēz \ ): “A mind-body exercise that provides daily conditioning, promotes whole body health and develops mental awareness to optimize your personal performance."

Pilates originated in the 1960s and is named after the German physical fitness specialist Joseph Pilates who devised the system.

  • Pilates is a low impact group of exercises designed to strengthen your body while also improving posture and flexibility. While many traditional workouts build tight, bulky muscles in familiar postures which predisposes you to injury, Pilates uses unfamiliar postures to retrain your muscle memory while elongating and strengthening your body. This will improve muscle elasticity and joint mobility, ultimately reducing your risk of injury.

Pilates is gentle, yet challenging even for elite athletes. It will teach you to be a more efficient mover and improve your breathing with all athletic activities. Your mind body awareness and connection will develop, and many clients report it to be a great stress reliever.

  • We will design a Pilates program specific to your needs and goals ahead of time, which may include mat, and equipment based Pilates exercises. I am a stickler for form and using safe but challenging movement to enhance your athletic performance or personal well-being.

You can expect to work hard, but safely, with lots of cueing to ensure you are getting the most out of your workout. We can also work together to design a program for you to work on at home between sessions.

  • Each session is 50 minutes.

  • Absolutely! Private lessons are the best way for new clients to learn the Pilates way of moving, and get used to the equipment. You can be sure we will take the time to teach you what you need to know to get started. It is a great way to prepare for a group class as well.

  • Just yourself, and activewear you will be comfortable in. Our studio space is fully stocked with towels, toiletries, and water.

  • No, we do not offer group classes because our goal is to provide the best, individualized program for YOU , and we do not feel we are able to do so in the group setting. We do offer private lessons for groups of two people, to allow couples or friends with mutual goals in mind to work together, and still receive individualized attention from the instructor.

Keep your eyes peeled for the occasional pop-up group mat class!
